Can Dennis Miller read? He has been on the rightwing propaganda shows lately with a Newsweek magazine from 1975. The magazine has an article about global cooling in it. Why someone would cite 32 year old information to make a scientific argument I don't know, that is unless on has a hidden agenda. Yes at one time science did believe the earth was cooling. Here is an explanation from Wikipedia:

Twenty years ago global cooling was discredited and the science of climatology advanced.
Dennis Miller isn't dumb. He knows that in science as more information becomes available theories are refined. At one time people thought the earth was flat, the earth was the center of the universe, and that humors were responsible for illness. All these ideas gave way to better information, that is how science works. Miller using 32 year old information to try and discredit current scientific thinking is typical of conservative thought. Conservatives by definition do not like change. Unfortunately for them burying your head up your ass doesn't prevent change from happening.

The Union Club in Philadelphia awarded a gold medal to Donald Rumsfeld. In the old days, back when the truth actually mattered, gold medals were given to heroes. People who demonstrated courage or demonstrated rare levels of skill were awarded gold medals as a sign of gratitude and respect. Rumsfeld has presided over the most failed Defense Department in the history of the country. He has participated in losing not one but two wars during his administration, the nation was attacked on his watch, and the main perpetrator has never been brought to justice. Rumsfeld shamed the nation by approving the torture of prisoners by American personnel. He effectively spit on the Constitution by allowing illegal wiretaps of American citizens. Rumsfeld was and is a failure and the Union Club rewarded that failure. Look at the picture running with this article, if that isn't lipstick on a pig, then what is it?

The difference between republicans and Democrats has never been as clearly defined as it was yesterday. News Corp. the parent of Fox New and Fox entertainment was in the news itself.
Someone at Fox paid for the release of two employees who had been kidnapped by Palestinian terrorists. The terrorists received two million dollars for the release of the employees. That is two million dollars that the terrorists themselves literally thanked Fox for and said they would use to buy weapons and bombs. I wonder how many dead Israeli's two million dollars buys.
Not to be outdone buy itself, and in an effort to get the two million back, Fox is going to air an interview with O.J. Simpson. Simpson is going to discuss how he would have killed Nicole Brown and Ron Goldman, "if he had done the killings." It is hard to decide which is sleazier, Fox for paying this piece of shit for the interview, or Simpson for capitalizing on the murders he was never punished for.
Getting back to the difference between republicans and Democrats, republicans feel whatever they do, even funding terrorists and murderers is ok. Democrats know that a price must always be paid, and the objects we sometimes desire are never worth the cost to our souls.

On the last Friday of the fair in October, Catherine Austin and her sons were high atop the ferris wheel when they took severl digital photos. It wasn't until they got home that they noticed something out of this world, something some might call a heavenly host.

The stench of bullshit has been wafting off of the steaming heap of republicanism for quite a while now. The reek is strongest in Washington but is detectable in every neighborhood across the land. The usual background smell of BS was elevated shortly after the invasion of Iraq. Having been told by the Bush administration exactly what kinds of weapons would be found and where, it quickly became apparent that there were no weapons of mass destruction. The bullshit piled higher with Bush playing dressup and declaring mission accomplished. Instead of opening a window and letting the stink of BS out the republicans gathered around it like flies on a steaming pile. Some of them today, the slow learners, are still buzzing around the dried up turd looking for a choice nugget.
The smell of BS became overwhelming after Katrina hit, the stink of BS and dead bodies started to cling to the republicans at this point. While America watched live on TV as American citizens begged for help Bush responded with "good job Brownie." The right wing propagandists spread the smell of BS by blaming everyone and anyone including the victims of the storm for the administrations failure to react to the disaster. Now even the smell of bullshit has been overwhelmed with the more earthy smell of republican man on man sex. It seems Americans can stand the day to day stench of politics as usual, even the overworked olfactory organs of America went on overload when it was revealed that the republicans had a member of congress trolling for children. Just when the foul smell was clearing we were hit again. A man who worked his ass off to make sure gay people in America would not receive equal rights, a religious leader with a direct pipeline to George Bush, was working his ass off with a gay partner while stoned to bejesus on meth. The most telling part of the Ted Haggard story was the way he reacted when caught. He lied. The fall back position of every republican. I would like to give the republican party a new slogan going forward to the 2008 elections. If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bullshit.

Would you be happy if you were hired by an employer and found out that the rate of pay, benefits, and sign on bonus were all lies? If you had a serious illness and your doctor told you there was nothing wrong with you would you be happy? How would you feel if you brought your car into the shop and the estimate was $300.00 and when you came to pick it up you were handed a bill for $3000.00? Of all the things that bother me I find that dishonesty is the most loathsome. When I am asked about my past or my personal habits I am painfully honest with people. I guess that is why I can't understand why people listen to right wing radio. I can't understand the mentality that wants or maybe needs to be lied to hour after hour. If you listen to the misinformation take it in and do no fact checking you are living a lie. We all were raised to believe the old saw that you can't believe everything you read but we seem to be willing to believe what we are told in order to feel like we belong to a group. Feeling like we belong to something that is bigger and more important than ourselves is a basic need for humans. We feel smarter and more important if there is a group that has the same view of things. It doesn't surprise me to hear people like Hannity and Limbaugh lie for hours on end, they get paid good money to do it. What amazes me is how many followers there are in America willing to blindly accept propaganda fed to them hourly. On these shows caller after caller sucks up to the host seeking the brief moment of recognition that tells them that yes, they are part of the group. To reinforce the exclusivity of their group the host always takes a few calls from "liberals", these callers are treated rudely and mocked to make sure that the group knows that they are special and more worthy.
Some simple explanations seem to be that according to a well know study, the more educated a person is the less likely it is that they are a republican. The trend among young people to not read is telling. Our education system is great at turning out people that are conditioned to just regurgitate what they have been told. In Florida the best example is the FCAT test. It supposedly measures how much students have learned, but the reality is that the schools "teach to the test" so that the students end up learning how to do well on the things that are on the test but nothing else. Schools do not teach critical thinking skills. Students that think for themselves are challenging. It is much easier to condition children to sit still repeat the lesson of the day and not ask questions. Our education system was designed to crank out factory workers. People conditioned to show up each day at the same time, follow the same schedule and never question authority. The basic goal of the education system is to crank out conformists, and judging by the success of right wing radio they are doing a good job.

After first denying everything we now hear that Ted Haggard has admitted some allegations about a gay relationship with a male prostitute. Haggard stated that "I only put the head in" and that he technically wasn't involved with a male prostitute because he has not paid him. Haggard said "the check is in the mail so I never really paid for sex." After stepping down as leader of a 14000 member mega church Haggard said he is still very much opposed to gay marriage, "the only thing that could be worse than being married to a bitchy woman would be being married to a bitchy old drag queen that can't keep his mouth shut." Today our commander of incompetence told the bloated drug addicted Rush Limbaugh that the U.S. has to stay in Iraq to keep the insurgents from cutting off the flow of oil. Taking time out from his viagra fueled sex vacation in the Dominican Republic Limbaugh stopped making fun of the disabled long enough to give Bush a outlet to give the 310th reason for needing to stay in Iraq. Bush reportedly told Limbaugh off the air that he hoped this reason would stick because "it's hard work comin' up with excuses I'm workin' hard." Bush further stated that the newly formed Iraqi oil company Bin Arbusto looked like a "real winner." Bush admitted that terrorists could strike the U.S. from any of the 193 countries in the world but said that as long as we stayed in Iraq the terrorists would never think of launching an attack from anywhere else. He further stated that Americans should remain in a state of fear until further notice.
In other world news Britain today released two brothers that had been arrested for plotting to blow up airliners heading to the U.S. The police in Great Britain said there wasn't enough evidence to charge the two adding that they wanted to extend the investigation but the Bush administration demanded that the men be arrested just before the American primary elections, one British official stated "I told you so."
On a side note I couldn't help but notice Limbaugh wearing glasses. His addiction to oxycontin was said to have caused his hearing loss, with all the stories about men losing their sight from viagra use it just made me wonder. He's already deaf and dumb I wonder if he's going for the trifecta.

Bush Is A Coward Abandons U.S. Soldier

The Bush administration showed it's true colors again today. The search for a missing U.S. soldier was abandoned when Iraqi officials demanded that roadblocks be removed from the Sader City area of Iraq. When it became apparent that they would be abandoning the soldier the Bush administration mounted a smear campaign against the solider stating that he had violated policy by marrying an Iraqi woman. The implication was that he had run off to be with his wife. This of course absolves the administration from being weasels and abandoning him even though we now know he was kidnapped by the Mahdi Army.
I can only imagine the negative effect this has on troop morale, knowing that George Bush will leave you behind if it is politically expedient. Our troops deserve better than the chickenshit draft dodgers running this administration. George Bush is a coward, he has failed to stand up for an American soldier.

Republican Congress Sneaks In Tax Hike

After listening to the republican propaganda machine warn people that Democrats, if elected will raise taxes, I just had to take a few minutes and write to all of you that have a savings plan to pay for your children’s education. The republican congress, you know the good guys that would never raise your taxes, did just that. A new law called the “Tax Increase Prevention and Reconciliation Act of 2005". Notice the title, “Tax Increase Prevention.” It is the exact opposite of that. This new law raises the tax on any investment income that is in your children’s name. The old law taxed the income according to how much your child made in interest income. The new law taxes the first $1700.00 at a low rate that works out to about $85.00, but any income over the $1700.00 mark is taxed at the parents tax rate. John Battaglia, tax director of Deloitte’s Private Client Advisors Practice, sums it up this way: “Because you’re under the age of 18, if your investment income exceeds $1,700 this year, you’re going to get taxed on amounts above that at your parents’ rate. This results in a huge tax increase for anyone earning more than the initial $1700.00. Anyone with investments in their children’s name for such things as college or to pay for attendance at private primary or secondary schools will end up paying significantly more than in past years. What makes this doubly bad is that the law was passed mid year and was made retroactive to the beginning of the year, anyone that did tax planning based on last years law will be caught short when having to pay the higher rate. While the republican tax cuts benefited mainly the top 10% of wage earners this tax increase reaches deep into the middle class and effects millions of people trying to save for their families education.
So now you have a republican congress that has been spending to the tune of an 800 billion dollar deficit, and now the republican controlled congress has passed a tax increase that will not only cost families money but will also make it more difficult to save for education. Have you had enough?

The republican party pulled two ads this week that had been running in Tennessee. One ad not so subtlety used a young white blonde in a Marilyn Monroe voice first squealing “I met Harold at the Playboy Club.” Later in the ad she gives her best come hither look and huskily intones “call me Harold.” The second ad had what has been termed “jungle drums” playing every time the Democratic candidates name is mentioned. These ads came from the same republican party that a few short months ago was trying to reach out to African Americans and let them know that the republican party was the only party that cared about them. They have a funny way of showing that they care, using the old Blazing Saddles “where the white women at” stereotype. The republicans say they are the party that appeals to the majority of Americans. My own unofficial observations have told me that there is a low tolerance in this country for racists, especially among younger people. America seems to be moving forward, it’s too bad the republicans don’t want to come along with the rest of us.

Bush Needs To Be Accountable For 2800 Individual Lost Battles

"The men and women of the armed forces have never lost a battle in over three years in the war," said President Bush during today's news conference on Iraq.
"We've never been defeated in a stand-up fight in Iraq in over three years," Dick Cheney told NPR.
"The men and women of the armed forces here have never lost a battle in over three years of war. That is a fact unprecedented in history," said Gen. Casey at a press conference in Baghdad.
The Bush administration would like us to believe that we haven’t lost a single battle in Iraq. Every time we have come up against the enemy we have been victorious. The problem is that in a guerilla war each person is fighting an individual battle. The insurgents aren’t massing like the German 5th Panzer Division hoping to make a decisive strike at a weak point in our lines. They are targeting a single vehicle or even a single soldier at a time. Bush would like us to believe that we have won a spectacular string of successes in Iraq. Unfortunately I look at the 2804 dead U.S. troops and I see 2804 individual battles that were lost. The only reason we are still in Iraq is the ego of the president. He does not want to held accountable for the disaster he has brought about. If he just “stays the course” for two more years, no matter what the cost to American servicemen and their families, he can layoff on the next president the task of withdrawing our troops. He will be able to say that he didn’t “cut and run” the victory wasn’t denied on his watch. The presidents ego isn’t worth another American life. Investing more lives to preserve the honor of those who have already fallen is patriotic claptrap. The only reason more Americans will die is because Bush can never be wrong. He must never be held accountable. The only question is how many individual battles will be lost before he is held accountable.

21 Yr Old Man Says He Had Sex With Florida Gov. Candidate

A twenty one year old man who used to work in the Katherine Harris’s election campaign has twice told witnesses that he has had sex with GOP candidate for governor Charlie Crist.
Jason Wetherington, who recently worked as a field director for U.S. Senate candidate Katherine Harris and currently works for state representative Ellyn Bodganoff's reelection campaign, also named a man whom he said is Crist's long-term partner, a convicted thief named Bruce Carlton Jordan who also recently worked for Harris in her long-shot Senate bid.

Limbaugh Attacks Fox To Avoid Failed Republican Policies

Just forget about it! Don’t talk about it. Don’t bring it up. This is the republican plan for dealing with Iraq until after the election.
Bill Frist has told republican candidates that if they want to succeed on Election Day they should not mention Iraq. Let’s see what else can they talk about?
I know let’s attack Michael J. Fox for running ads in favor of Democratic candidates that demonstrate the effects of Parkinson’s disease, which the actor suffers from. Rush Limbaugh, who went 4f in the Vietnam draft due to a “pilonidal cyst" or in other words “painful rectal itch.” I suppose suffering from such a condition gives Limbaugh the medical background to assess people suffering from any number of conditions. I just wouldn’t trust the judgment of someone with an infection so close to his brain.
Limbaugh, a noted drug abuser and champion of Viagra vacations in the Dominican Republic, speculated that Fox had not taken his medication thereby enhancing the body movements typical of Parkinson’s sufferers.
Limbaugh can’t seem to understand that some people can actually refuse to take a drug. Fox has every right to take the medication or not, Limbaugh has the same right but refused to exercise it until the authorities got involved. Limbaugh’s butt buddy Sean Hannity was whining about Fox releasing the commercial two weeks before an election, as though there would be some logic in releasing a political ad two weeks after the election. He also cried to Diane sawyer that Fox had done the commercial just, hold on here, TO GET DEOCRATS ELECTED. No shit Sean?
The republicans don’t want to talk about Iraq so they choose to discuss stem cell research by attacking someone with Parkinson’s disease because they dared stand up against republican candidates. This has been the republican method for years. They accuse the Democrats of having no ideas but they have nothing to show for 12 years of congressional control. They have even less to brag about when we throw in the incompetent Bush administration.
I would like to see the republicans discuss the positive things they have gotten done. We know a lot about what they are against, gay marriage, homosexuals, abortion, sex of any kind, constitutional rights, privacy, any living thing in Iraq, meaningful help for the elderly, disagreement with any of their ideas, freedom of the press, any intelligent thought.
We also know what they are for, the right to own a gun and not pay taxes.
So you republican candidates, you want to impress your voters? Stick to the republican hot buttons death and taxes.

The U.S. government fronted over a billion dollars to the new Iraqi government to buy weapons for their non-existent military. 400 million dollars went to buying outdated equipment and the rest just disappeared. 800 million dollars in U.S. taxpayer money simply vanished. Now you hard core fiscal conservatives who are always ranting about the government taking your money should think long and hard about this. It is more tax money than anyone of you will pay in a lifetime and was stolen. The Bush administration is still trying, or not, to find 8 billion dollars that went missing shortly after the invasion of Iraq. So much for the republican party is more responsible with tax money argument. I’ve actually heard people say that 8 billion dollars is a drop in the bucket, to those people all I can say is you must REALLY love doing your patriotic duty every April 15th.
The worst part of this is nobody seems to be looking for the money. We’ve spent countless hours searching for weapons of mass destruction that the administration knew didn’t exist, but 8 billion dollars here, 800 million there, why bother looking? Just keep voting for republicans. In a few more years you can ask the illegal immigrant you work for to give you a raise so you can at least cover your tax bill to pay for the money you already paid.

Called for the Pentagon to kick CNN reporters out of Iraq because CNN has been showing a video released by insurgents that shows an insurgent sniper shooting an American soldier. Bush and his merry band of draft dodging chickenhawks started the war in Iraq. They sent our troops into harms way based on lies. The republicans are crowing about the Bush administration creating 6.6 million new jobs over 6 years, let’s take a look at that.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics measures employment in two ways. The Establishment Survey gathers data directly from 400,000 companies and then estimates how many Americans have payroll jobs. The Household Survey, based on surveys of 60,000 households, determines how many people are working and produces the unemployment rate. Occasionally, the two surveys show divergent trends in job growth—especially when an economy is coming out of recession. According to the payroll survey, the number of jobs fell 232,000 over the course of 2003 on a seasonally adjusted basis. But according to the Household Survey, which includes farm workers, the self-employed, and people who may work off the books, the number of Americans working rose by 1.03 million in 2003 on a seasonally adjusted basis.

No wonder Bush had to be dragged kicking and screaming to stop illegal immigration. He counts farm workers in the employment statistics. This brings up a point about the kinds of jobs that are being created. While high paying jobs with benefits are being shipped out of the country they are being replaced with low paying jobs with no benefits. Jobs at Walmart and fast food outlets are not the kind of career choices that you can support a family on. Also there has been no effort by the administration to stop illegal immigration or to crack down on businesses that hire illegals. Wages especially in the building trades have fallen dramatically due to illegal workers. The republican party is claiming immigration as their issue but they have done absolutely nothing to protect American jobs.

The other category where bush claims great strides is the number of self employed people has risen on his watch. Barry Ritholtz, chief market strategist at Maxim Group has suggested, they're self-employed because they're unemployed. Self employed can mean anything to the Bush administration, selling items on eBay or collecting cans on the side of the road.

The last myth of economic success is the record DOW. It looks great until you consider who invests in the stocks traded on the DOW, all the people that got big tax cuts under Bush.
Republicans will tell you that by investing in stocks the wealthy create jobs, hogwash. Coming out of the other side of their mouth is that middle class tax cuts drive the economy by encouraging spending, that is closer to the truth, but notice the difference. Tax cuts to high income earners get invested and earn more income for the recipient of the tax cut, on the other hand lower income people need to spend the money they receive to stimulate the economy. Let’s not forget that by spending that money you are also generating even more income for the wealthy in profits.

The republicans are telling American workers to trust them, after all who knows more about how to make money than the wealthy business class. Just keep in mind how they got wealthy, by convincing the working class to work for the lowest wages possible, importing foreign workers to further drive down wages, and investing not buying.

It’s time to start looking for candidates that believe in preserving jobs and wages, don’t waste your time looking in the republican party.

The republicans just don’t get it. People have had enough of lying and covering up. In upstate New York the NRCC is backing a political ad that has been proven to be an outright lie.
The national GOP campaign office started airing an ad Friday that showed Arcuri leering at the silhouette of a dancing woman who says, ''Hi, sexy. You've reached the live, one-on-one fantasy line.'' He supposedly dialed the service two years ago from a New York City hotel room and billed taxpayers – for all of $1.25 for a one-minute call. He is the district attorney in Oneida County.
Now the Utica Observer-Dispatch today notes that Arcuri's campaign has released records to the paper showing the call to the 800 sex line was followed the very next minute by a call to the state Department of Criminal Justice Services – and the last seven digits of the two numbers are the same.
The republicans are looking like the Titanic of politics right now and it is their own fault. Nationwide candidate after candidate has been caught behaving badly. What started as a small disadvantage over backing the presidents failed Iraq policy has snowballed into becoming political lepers due to sex, fraud and racist comments.
After several scandals involving congress the republican leadership tried a defense of “well they do it too,” but the Foley scandal finally brought the tipping point. There seems to be no tolerance in America right now for lying, corrupt politicians. The Democratic advantage in this election will be short lived if they don’t police their own. When the elections come in ’08 if the Democrats can’t stand up and say that they are the party with honesty and integrity the voters will only have two choices, stay home or continue to vote out incumbents. If the politicians can’t clean up their act the voters will do it for them. In the mean time I hope the republicans keep running ads like the one in New York.

It is Pat’s birthday on November 6, and elections are the day after. It gets me thinking about a conversation I had with Pat before we joined the military. He spoke about the risks with signing the papers. How once we committed, we were at the mercy of the American leadership and the American people. How we could be thrown in a direction not of our volition. How fighting as a soldier would leave us without a voice… until we get out.
Much has happened since we handed over our voice:
Somehow we were sent to invade a nation because it was a direct threat to the American people, or to the world, or harbored terrorists, or was involved in the September 11 attacks, or received weapons-grade uranium from Niger, or had mobile weapons labs, or WMD, or had a need to be liberated, or we needed to establish a democracy, or stop an insurgency, or stop a civil war we created that can’t be called a civil war even though it is. Something like that.

Somehow our elected leaders were subverting international law and humanity by setting up secret prisons around the world, secretly kidnapping people, secretly holding them indefinitely, secretly not charging them with anything, secretly torturing them. Somehow that overt policy of torture became the fault of a few “bad apples” in the military.

Somehow back at home, support for the soldiers meant having a five-year-old kindergartener scribble a picture with crayons and send it overseas, or slapping stickers on cars, or lobbying Congress for an extra pad in a helmet. It’s interesting that a soldier on his third or fourth tour should care about a drawing from a five-year-old; or a faded sticker on a car as his friends die around him; or an extra pad in a helmet, as if it will protect him when an IED throws his vehicle 50 feet into the air as his body comes apart and his skin melts to the seat.
Somehow the more soldiers that die, the more legitimate the illegal invasion becomes.
Somehow American leadership, whose only credit is lying to its people and illegally invading a nation, has been allowed to steal the courage, virtue and honor of its soldiers on the ground.
Somehow those afraid to fight an illegal invasion decades ago are allowed to send soldiers to die for an illegal invasion they started.
Somehow faking character, virtue and strength is tolerated.
Somehow profiting from tragedy and horror is tolerated.
Somehow the death of tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of people is tolerated.
Somehow subversion of the Bill of Rights and The Constitution is tolerated.
Somehow suspension of Habeas Corpus is supposed to keep this country safe.
Somehow torture is tolerated.
Somehow lying is tolerated.
Somehow reason is being discarded for faith, dogma, and nonsense.
Somehow American leadership managed to create a more dangerous world.
Somehow a narrative is more important than reality.
Somehow America has become a country that projects everything that it is not and condemns everything that it is.
Somehow the most reasonable, trusted and respected country in the world has become one of the most irrational, belligerent, feared, and distrusted countries in the world.
Somehow being politically informed, diligent, and skeptical has been replaced by apathy through active ignorance.
Somehow the same incompetent, narcissistic, virtueless, vacuous, malicious criminals are still in charge of this country.
Somehow this is tolerated.
Somehow nobody is accountable for this.
In a democracy, the policy of the leaders is the policy of the people. So don’t be shocked when our grandkids bury much of this generation as traitors to the nation, to the world and to humanity. Most likely, they will come to know that “somehow” was nurtured by fear, insecurity and indifference, leaving the country vulnerable to unchecked, unchallenged parasites.
Luckily this country is still a democracy. People still have a voice. People still can take action. It can start after Pat’s birthday.

Foley Not The Sole Cause Of Republican Woes

Several republicans have started to blame Mark Foley for their upcoming losses on Nov. 7th. They are partly correct, the Foley scandal was the last straw for many conservatives; however the lion’s share of the blame has to go to president Bush. The basic principles of what conservatives stand for are sound. Reduced federal spending, less government involvement in our daily lives, keep taxes as low as possible. It is hard to argue against any of them. The problem for the republicans has been the way the president has ignored all of the conservative principles. Federal spending is absolutely out of control, with the unnecessary invasion of Iraq completely unfunded by incoming tax money, a Medicare drug benefit with no spending limit that benefits only the drug companies and is also completely unfunded and expected to cost somewhere around a trillion dollars. These costs are just added to the federal deficit and will have to be paid by future tax dollars. The republicans hate hearing it but when Bill Clinton left office there was a budget surplus and the congress was on a pay as you go budget. If a program was going to be implemented it had to be completely funded in order to pass. If upon hearing that the only response you have is to bash Clinton then you aren’t serious about winning elections.
As far as a smaller government bush has increased the size of the federal government dramatically most notably with Homeland security, a bloated waste of taxpayer dollars that is inefficient as are all huge government programs. The republicans continually crow about Homeland security preventing attacks against the U.S. but very little evidence of that has been seen. There is yet to be a successful prosecution of a single terror suspect arrested in the U.S. after 9/11. The arrests in Miami are a good example of this. The FBI informant was leading the suspected terrorists by the nose, suggesting that they take an oath to Al Qaeda. The FBI was in effect manufacturing fake terrorists.
Bush also threw out less government in peoples lives by ushering in an era of domestic spying, allowing federal agencies to wiretap American citizens without first obtaining a warrant. The republican congress went even further by directly involving themselves in the case of Terry Schiavo. Senate Majority leader Bill Frist went so far as to diagnose Ms. Schiavo without ever having seen her. There has never been such blatant meddling in the life of a private citizen’s life as by congress in the Schiavo case.
Mark Foley did make an impact on voters, but many people, including prominent conservatives, were already bemoaning the abandonment of conservative principles. The republican congress abandoned the ideals that got them elected and they are about to pay for it.

Condi Asks Israel to Not Treat Arab Americans Like,...Well Arabs

The State Department has complained to the Israeli government about its discriminatory treatment of Arab-Americans traveling to the Palestinian territories, senior State Department officials said Thursday.
Officials said that despite a longstanding policy of issuing visas to Americans traveling to the West Bank and Gaza, the Israeli government has recently denied Palestinian-Americans and certain other Americans entry.
During her recent trip to Israel, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice raised the issue with Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni.
They are being treated as Arabs and not Americans," one senior official said. "They basically treat them as second-class citizens."

Do you think this could be the root of some Arab hostility? The Israelis can treat American Arabs just fine but treat resident Arabs as second class citizens, and all it takes to fix it is Condi telling them to knock it off? Condi, why not tell them to knock it off for all Arabs?

Today the president said that it would be fair to compare the situation in Iraq today with the 1968 Tet offensive in Viet Nam. Bush said, "George, my gut tells me that they have all along been trying to inflict enough damage that we'd leave,". I’m sure these words haunt anyone that lived through the Viet Nam years. Back then the nation was strung along year by year being told that we just needed to send a few more troops, we just need to bomb Hanoi, we will pull out as the ARVN stand up and take over military operations. Just like Iraq the South Vietnamese government never took over, the ARVN never did stand up so our troops could come home and there weren’t enough bombs on earth to change things. In the end what we got out of it was a black granite wall. The names of 58,178 brave Americans, their voices forever silent, stand as testament to a failed policy. I would ask George Bush to go to the wall. Stare into its black face and listen. Listen to the silence of 58,179 people. Mr. President, you have not attended a single funeral of a fallen Iraq War veteran. The least you can do is to visit the wall and see what your policies are creating. This country doesn’t need another wall of names. We do not have the right to ask anymore of our troops to sacrifice their lives for what surely will end in failure.

Snowfall In Great Lakes Global Warming Deniers Will Be Out In Force

Chicago recorded its earliest measurable snowfall ever on 10//06 with 1/3 of an inch falling and near record low temperatures. Buffalo NY also recorded 2 feet of snow the same day that left thousands without electricity. Global warming denier Matt Drudge will use his radio show to whine that “if there is global warming why is there record snowfall and record cold temperatures?” Drudge is either intellectually lazy or willfully ignorant of the climate research that has been done. Science Daily in an article dated Oct. 6 2003 predicted exactly the effects we are now seeing in the Great Lakes region. “Global warming has had a surprising impact on the Great Lakes region of the U.S. more snow. A comparative study of snowfall records in and outside of the Great Lakes region indicated a significant increase in snowfall in the Great Lakes region since the 1930s but no such increase in non-Great Lakes areas.” They further explain why this happens, "Recent increases in the water temperature of the Great Lakes are consistent with global warming," said Burnett. "Such increases widen the gap between water temperature and air temperature the ideal condition for snowfall."
The effect of water in the Great Lakes being warmer with increased evaporation leads to more snowfall when he saturated air hits the colder winter air over land. Warming ocean water is beginning to have the same effect world wide with increased evaporation leading to increased rainfall in some areas and increased winter snowfall in places like Greenland.
I have heard Drudge mock global warming theory many times during winter warm spells in the north. Once again he is being willfully ignorant as increased global warming obviously does not mean that each day is warmer than the previous, but rather the average daily temperatures will show an increase when tracked over time. When will the Bush administration grow up and start taking responsibility for making decisions? The “it’s Clintons fault” line wore thin long ago. As my children grew up I was proud to see them mature and take on adult responsibility. This administration shows no signs of doing either. After 6 years certainly they have had enough time to analyze the political situation in the rest of the world and formulate a plan to deal with it. Where is the plan? They are continually caught off guard, surprised, or proven wrong on their basic assumptions on how to handle events. Worst of all when things don’t go well, which is every time they involve themselves, they blame the previous administration. Even before the new president is sworn in he and his team usually are busy setting the course that will guide them in matters of foreign policy. They take into account what the previous administration has left them and plan accordingly. The Bush administration seems to have left planning out of all decision making, relying on seat of the pants, knee jerk, policy making. Bush is in his second term. The administration before his, was his own. He has no one to blame but himself for foreign policy failures. He has had 6 years to deal with N. Korea and has done nothing. N. Korea has now entered the nuclear community and Bush has no one to blame but himself. American voters on the hand have Bushes inept diplomacy to blame.

According to Kuo, Karl Rove's office referred to evangelical leaders as 'the nuts.'
Kuo says, 'National Christian leaders received hugs and smiles in person and then were dismissed behind their backs and described as 'ridiculous,' 'out of control,' and just plain 'goofy.' "
So how does the Bush White House keep 'the nuts' turning out at the polls?
One way, regular conference calls with groups led by Pat Robertson, James Dobson, Ted Haggard, and radio hosts like Michael Reagan.
Kuo says, "Participants were asked to talk to their people about whatever issue was pending. Advice was solicited [but] that advice rarely went much further than the conference call. [T]he true purpose of these calls was to keep prominent social conservatives and their groups or audiences happy."

What do you get when you cross politics and religious organizations? Since politics is rife with corruption and scandal and seems to be immune from the saving graces of being associated with religion it seems that the cross will breed corrupt religious organizations. Churches and religious organizations already operate under an incredible umbrella of freedom in the U.S. What is it that the government has that the religious right wants? The answer of course is access to money, and we all know that the pursuit of money is the most corrupting influence on a human being.
Take a look at how the Christian Coalition rated some politicians in it’s voter guides. Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) who resigned in disgrace at the first sign his long career of soliciting sex with Congressional pages was about to be exposed -- received an 84% rating from the Christian Coalition; Disgraced former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) 92% and Rep. Randy "Duke" Cunningham, who is in jail for bribery, 100%. The Christian Coalition either has a hard time recognizing corruption or it is willing to support corrupt politicians for access to government money. What their activity is going to do in the long run is cause Americans to reexamine the tax free status of religious organizations. That status was granted originally with the thought that charitable work deserved a break. There is nothing charitable about getting involved in politics.

It is being reported that North Korea successfully tested a nuclear weapon at 10:36 pm EST. the speculation is that the Bush administration will respond by blockading N. Korean ports ad enacting economic sanctions. So we open yet another page of failed republican foreign policy. While the President has our military bogged down in a carnival of violence that used to be called Iraq, and Afghanistan is teetering on falling into the hands of the Taliban, a true threat is turning into a nightmare. A country run by a truly unbalanced tyrant has joined the nuclear club. Instead of being ready to deploy against a real threat our military was launched against a country that had no nukes, had no weapons of mass destruction at all. Because our President cannot negotiate and knows only how to bully and bluster to get his way, which is the only way, our country is left with no alternative but to do nothing. Economic sanctions imposed against a country with no economy are an impotent, useless exercise. Anything N. Korea wants can be shipped through China. China, if given the proper motivation, could put an end to N. Korea’s nuclear program, but George Bush doesn’t ask, he just tells others what they will do. Negotiation is adult behavior, not something the schoolyard bully likes or understands. Thanks to an administration that went to war with the wrong nation without just cause we are all now much less safe. Thanks to an administration so lacking in foreign policy expertise it hasn’t negotiated a single settlement of a single problem anywhere in the world in the six years they have been in office we are much less safe. Bush has been attacking the Democrats as being soft on national security. There is no proof of this, but the proof of the republican’s incompetence just exploded in N. Korea.

Frankly as busy as the senator has been covering his ass I’m surprised he has had time to direct anything. All week long the republican talking heads and politicians have desperately tried to make the Foley scandal somehow the fault of Democrats. From Limbaugh to Hannity to Drudge and now Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC) has tried. On CNN Rep. McHenry said “all the fact points lead to one question”: whether House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) timed the release of the Foley emails. In response to his talk of “fact points,” Wolf Blitzer asked McHenry five separate times whether he had any evidence whatsoever to support his conspiracy theory. McHenry had no answer. Hastert’s chief of staff Scott Palmer met with Foley a full year before Hastert said his office knew about the Foley situation. Over and over this past week I’ve been told that the republicans impeached Clinton not for having sex with a 22 year old aide, but because he lied about it. Bush 41 Fears Wild Democrats Will Expose The Truth

ABC news reports that Bush 41 the current Presidents daddy warns of a “ghastly” future if “wild” Democrats take over congress. Bush 41 is referring to the horrors of what the rest of us call accountability. In our daily lives each of us is accountable to our employers, our family and society in general. Our actions and words are evaluated constantly by others and our status at work and in the community depends on how we are evaluated. The current President has been operating in a protective bubble. Having a majority in both houses of congress allowed him free reign to operate without oversight. Judging by what has come to light, warrant less wiretapping of American citizens, secret prisons, lying about intelligence to justify a war, and trampling the constitution, we can only imagine what remain hidden. This is what Bush 41 is warning the faithful about, his fear that the wild Democrats will investigate the mad power grab his son has engaged in since taking office. 41 states "And they would be issuing the subpoenas, dragging people in just to be getting headlines." This is the ultimate republican nightmare, Democrats having the power to force republicans to testify under oath. I have to wonder what inspires such fear of the truth. When defending wiretaps on Americans the republican talking point was, “if they haven’t done anything wrong they have nothing to be afraid of.” This same standard applies to the Bush administration. If the future looks ghastly for the republicans they have only themselves to blame. The kitchen light is about to go on in the tenement of the republican party, and the roaches are about to scatter.

Newt Lies Again, Has The Background Of A Snake But Still Judges Others.

On the Sean Hannity show today Newt Gingrich lied about an earlier sex scandal involving a house page and Democratic Rep. Gerry Studds. Gringrich stated that Studds took advantage of a page while the page was intoxicated, Gingrich called it “date rape.” At the time Studds acknowledged that it had been inappropriate to engage in a relationship with a subordinate, and said his actions represented "a very serious error in judgement. The page in question was not a minor. As the House read their censure of him, Studds turned his back on the speaker and members in the chamber and ignored them. Later, at a press conference with the former page standing beside him, the two stated that what had happened between them was nobody's business but their own.
Gingrich lied about the rape, stated that the sex was not consensual and lied about the age of the page involved. While I do not condone what Rep. Studds did I have to say that unlike Gingrich, when confronted at least he told the truth. Gingrich is said to be considering a run for the White House. Given his background it will be an uphill climb. He has to somehow explain away dating his high school math teacher while he was still in high school, asking his wife in front of their children while she was in the hospital being treated for cancer, for a divorce, and was cheating on his second wife while leading the impeachment of Bill Clinton for having an affair. If that’s not enough the house ethics committee charged him with 89 violations ultimately leading to his resignation.

Drudge Tries To Make The Foley Scandal Go Away, It Didn't

Drudge, when will you learn. Being first isn’t nearly as important as being accurate. The Drudge report has posted an article stating that the pages were just pulling a prank to draw Foley out and have a little fun. The problem with that is that it is still no defense even if true. Anyone that has watched Dateline and Chris Hansen has watched adults posing as underage kids “draw out” predators. The fact remains that Foley knew he was carrying on an exchange with a child and still made the disgusting references and suggested meeting with at least one of them. Telling the world that the messages somehow fell into “enemy” hands does not excuse the behavior. Drudge shouting to the world that it was a prank gone bad changes nothing. The incidents still happened. The time line of who knew what is the same, and sadly the republican leadership still did nothing when it became obvious a predator was in the house. In fact the republicans deliberately held the information from Democratic members of the page board. The republican talking heads accusing “Soros” funded web sites of withholding information but I have yet to see them name one. They are accusing Democratic operatives of plotting this in time for the elections, but they haven’t named any. Why is that? Every time they make accusations it is always the mythical “someone” that did it. Guys, name names or shut up. Hey Drude, what's with looking like a refugee from "Get Smart"?

GOP Stuck In The Sand, Time To Unload The Dead Weight

Here in south Florida we have sugar sand. A fine grained, loose patch of sand that when driven on will cause your car to sink up to the axel. Denny Hastert and the GOP have driven into a big patch of sugar sand and can’t figure out how to get out. Like typical Yankees they first put the car in reverse and tried to back out. This almost never works once you’re stuck you can’t just pretend it didn’t happen and back out. Then they tried the rocking motion, put it in drive and then quickly put it back in reverse. This doesn’t work either, it just makes you sink further down. Like snowbird tourists they then started pointing the finger at each other. “I told you not to drive off the road.” “No you didn’t, if you would have told me I wouldn’t have done it.” I TOLD YOU AND YOU DID IT ANYWAY!” “I don’t remember you telling me.”
Obviously this isn’t going to get you out and it just draws attention to how bad you’re stuck.
What you have to realize is that the car is sinking from all the dead weight in it. The way out is to unload the dead weight from the car, then you’ve got to let most of the air out of the tires. They get traction much better once all the hot air is out. Only then can you slowly drive out of the rut you’ve sunk into. The most important thing to remember though is to get rid of the dead weight.

Gingrich Tells A Joke Says He Doen't Need Lecture On Morality

Newt, that’s really Newton, Gingrich says that the republicans don’t have to let “our friends on the left lecture us about morality.” Well Newt somebody should lecture you about morality. Weren’t you charged with 89 ethics violations while in the house? Of course the republican led ethics committee cut you a deal and gave you a slap on the wrist and $300,000 dollar fine, I mean “cost assessment.” In return you were supposed to admit your sins but you decided not to do that and got caught. You and your buddy John Boehner were plotting to run a scam and “planned to abrogate his agreement by misrepresenting the ethics violations he committed.” Some morals, you make a deal and then plot the best way to break it. And then Gingrich was accused of hypocrisy and unethical behavior when he accepted a $4.5 million advance as part of a book deal, in light of his previous role in the investigation of Jim Wright. Following the accusations, Gingrich returned the advance. It must have hurt having to give up that cash.

19 Dead American Troops In 4 Days Sacrificed To A Presidents Ego

While the republican party fiddles, trying to justify not protecting boys from a sexual predator, Iraq burns. 19 U.S. service men have been killed this month, it is only the 4th. The republicans who just a month ago were itching to expand the war into Iran now can’t seem to find their ass with both hands. They can’t manage congress and they can’t manage the war in Iraq. A poll of Army and Marine Corp. veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan shows that 63% of them feel that that the military is overextended and 53% of the Iraq veterans stated that they sometimes did not know who the enemy was. A full brigade of 700 Iraqi police had to be removed from service because they had ties to death squads. The Bush administration has continually said the Iraqi forces were stepping up to take over military operations. It is obvious now that is not the case. The Iraqi forces we are arming and training are turning in increasing numbers to the insurgency. This war was ill conceived, poorly planned and led by an incompetent defense secretary and a chief executive who refuses to deal with reality. An under strength force was sent to Iraq, poorly equipped, and no effort was made to correct the situation. The leadership chose to live in denial. Now there is no denying the obvious. Iraq grows more violent everyday. This month we will likely lose a record number of troops. During the Viet Nam war groups of protesters would march outside the White House chanting “Hey! Hey! LBJ How many kids will you kill today?” An action like that today would fall on deaf uncaring ears. Bush’s ego is the only reason our troops will continue to die. They will be sacrificed because the commander in chief refuses to see what has become all to clear to the majority of Americans, there is no winning in Iraq, winning was never defined and now it has become an illusion.

Schlussel Defends Foley Gets Facts Wrong

The wingnuts are out trying to smoke screen the Foley affair. Debbie Schlussel tries to justify what Foley did by stating that Mel Reynolds, a Democrat was disgraced by having sex with an underage female, somehow makes it ok for Foley to lust after young boys. Reynolds is a criminal, he was convicted of the sex crimes and bank fraud. Schlussel, typically republican can’t get her facts straight though. She claims that President Clinton pardoned Reynolds for his sex crimes. Clinton actually commuted Reynolds sentence. His conviction stands he had time taken off his sentence though. If Schlussel had bothered doing the minimum in fact checking she would have caught her error, but the Ms. Schlussel wouldn’t want to let facts get in the way.
The most disturbing thing though is her willingness to believe that because one man did wrong we should somehow excuse the behavior of another man. Once again we see a republican hack expressing no sympathy or concern for the victims, the underage boys subjected to a pervert. What we see is a party hack trying to excuse indefensible behavior.

In its ever continuing quest to bring you the best in propaganda Fox news on Tuesday, not once but at least three separate times ran footage of Mark Foley labeling him as a Democrat. Now I know that the folks at Fox dearly wish that were true, but in order to remain fair and balanced they need to admit the mistakes and a retraction. Knowing what a propagandizing pile of crap the station is I won’t be holding my breath. The Fox News network has steadily been dropping in the rating lately. That will happen when your viewers average age is around 83 and the collective IQ of your on air staff is about the same. Anyone that hasn’t had their brain turned to oatmeal from watching Fox has to be offended that the station thinks you are stupid enough to fall for such blatant lies, or maybe the average O’Reilly viewer is just glad when they haven’t crapped themselves during the show.

Man Arrested For Daring To Criticize Cheney

Vice president Dick Cheney had a Colorado man arrested for telling him that his policies on Iraq were reprehensible. Attorney David Lane said that on June 16, Steve Howards was walking his 7-year-old son to a piano practice, when he saw Cheney surrounded by a group of people in an outdoor mall. Howards and his son walked to about two-to-three feet from where Cheney was standing, and said to the vice president, "I think your policies in Iraq are reprehensible," or words to that effect, then walked on. Ten minutes later, according to Howards' lawsuit, he and his son were walking back through the same area, when they were approached by Secret Service agent Virgil D. "Gus" Reichle Jr., who asked Howards if he had "assaulted" the vice president. Howards denied doing so, but was nonetheless placed in handcuffs and taken to the Eagle County Jail. Howards has filed suit against the secret service. The lawsuit filed today alleges that Howards was arrested in retaliation for having exercised his First Amendment right of free speech, and that his arrest violated his Fourth Amendment protection against unlawful seizure. When did it become a crime to tell the truth? When did it become a crime to dare speak up to the powerful? The Bush administration seems to think that they have been anointed American royalty. America doesn’t need a king, and we damn sure don’t need these two bit dictators. If they want respect all they have to do is get something right. Anything.

Bush needs a distraction right now to make people forget that the real boogey men are in his own party. They are liars, thieves, and child molesters, and those that protect them. Frist Wants To Cut And Run From Afghanistan

Sen. Bill Frist now advocates a cut and run strategy in Afghanistan. Not only does he want to cut and run Frist thinks the U.S. should invite the Taliban into the newly formed Afghan government. It seems Frist doesn’t know, or care that the Taliban and Al-Qaida are tied together financially, ideologically, and operationally. Frist has become convinced that the U.S. military is no match for the Taliban, who have been growing in popularity and gaining support both in Afghanistan and apparently with Frist. Maybe if Frist had not backed the incompetently handled foreign policies of the Bush administration the Taliban never would have recovered. The republican insistence on pursuing a war against a country that posed absolutely no threat to the U.S. has allowed the real terrorists to consolidate their hold on an entire nation. Frist will tell us that no one could have predicted that the Taliban would regain strength after we pulled all but a hand full of troops out of Afghanistan. Perhaps the new Afghan government will choose a leader they admire, someone they all look up to, I hear Osama Bin-Laden has time on his hands. Maybe Frist will go to his swearing in ceremony.

Hastert Trys To Deny Responsibility For Coverup Blames The Messenger

In a news conference today Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert tried to deny responsibility for the coverup of the Foley sex scandal. Hastert claimed the republican leadership had no responsibility to look any further than the initial emails that were shown to him. even though a cursory investigation would have revealed Foley's sickness.
Hastert laid the blame for the scandal on those that revealed the content of the instant messages, and asked for an an investigation of those people. Once again the republican leadership denies accountability for actions that they should have taken to protect the underage boys that Foley preyed on. This has been a continuing theme for the republicans in recent years, stonewalling investigations, blaming others for reporting their illegal actions and refusing to accept personal responsibility for their actions. Hastert had a clear responsibility to investigate Foley as soon as the first email was given to him and he chose not to. Instead Hastert asked the fox not to rob the hen house telling Foley to behave. We have seen how well that approach works with sexual predators in the past. Hastert need to respond as to why he didn't further investigate Foley immediately.

Iraq War Update Things Aren't Looking Good

In the effort to win hearts and minds I’m sure that demanding the population to remain indoors from 6pm to 6am will be a huge success. Also 14 employees of computer stores in Baghdad have been kidnapped, this is the second mass kidnapping in as many days. These people will most likely be found in a day or two littering the streets with their throats slashed.
The U.S. command said three American Marines died in western Anbar province Saturday -- two in combat and the third in a vehicle accident. With their deaths, at least 73 American service members died in Iraq in September -- making it the second deadliest month this year, after April when at least 76 died.
In recent polls 70% of Iraqi’s said they want the U.S. to leave and in the U.S. 60% of Americans favor a phased withdrawal of troops. Tell me why again we are still there?

Politicians are not exempt from the legal or moral obligation to report criminal activity to the authorities. Dennis Hastert, John Boehner, and Tom Reynolds all knew about Mark Foley's inappropriate email and instant message exchanges with underage boys and they hid it. Rather than expose the GOP to scandal they tacitly approved of what Foley did. By putting political concerns before the moral obligation to protect children from a predator they have demonstrated that they are unfit to hold the offices to which they were elected.
When the scandal broke and to this day there was no expression of shock. No one showed surprise to hear that Foley was grooming boys for molestation. That is because they knew. For two days now they have been stumbling around issuing contradicting statements as to who knew what and when. In a mad scramble to cover their sorry child predator loving asses they have exposed themselves to be the worst of partisan hacks. Take a good look at your own children and know that Hastert, Boehner, and Reynolds would allow a 50 year old man to molest them in order to protect themselves and the republican party from scandal. Nothing matters to these men except power. They have no sense of shame, rather than do the right thing and resign they will compound their sins by lying. Boehner knew about it and did nothing. I guess the Bush administration deserves some credit. It was a challenge to be sure, bringing democracy to Iraq. I’m not sure anyone truly thought it could be done. With a little compromise they may well have succeeded. The Iraqi’s have resurrected some old laws from the Saddam days and enacted several new ones that criminalize speech against the government. Bush couldn’t quite get the Iraqi’s up to American standards so he has compromised and brought America down to the old Saddam Iraqi standard thereby delivering a semblance of democracy to both countries. The Iraqi’s have elections with little choice of candidates and a population that has no clue what elections are about, and so does America. Iraq bans journalists from enjoying the right of free speech; Bush is still working on that one for America. Under Saddam the Iraqi people were subject to indefinite imprisonment without a hearing and torture. Our president so admired that, he decided to bring it to America. In Iraq the level of violence escalates everyday, here in America the violent rhetoric escalates everyday and will soon erupt into violence. So being the deep thinker that he is George Bush realized he could never make Iraq exactly like America so he made America a little more like Iraq. Thank you Mr. President.

I'm Glad My Father Is Dead, Americas Shame

I’m glad my father died. He was a WWII veteran, part of the greatest generation. My father was a liberal. Not a college educated intellectual liberal, but a liberal from the gut. He just knew that all people were created equal, that personal freedom was the most important right in America, and that the people should run the government, not be afraid of it. My father learned these things growing up in an orphanage in Addison Illinois. His mother had been committed to a TB sanitarium and his father could not care for three children alone. This was in the early 1930’s, the depression years. When he turned 18 my father was released from the home and joined the Army. He served as an anti aircraft gunner in Europe. Like most veterans he didn’t talk much about his military service and when he did he told us humorous stories. I know from his military record that he served in the battle of the bulge and saw heavy combat, but you wouldn’t know it from the stories he told. After the army he got a job, got married and raised his family, like thousands of other returning vets. He worked for almost 40 years at the same company, I can’t remember him missing a day. My father had fought for this country, worked hard his whole life, paid taxes and enjoyed the rights and freedoms we are giving up. He never complained about paying taxes. He felt they were a patriotic duty, as long as they were fairly applied across the classes. He would have thought the people today that make several times the average Americans income but whine about having to pay a portion of it in taxes were greedy asses. He believed America lead the world not from power but from goodness. My father, today would be deeply ashamed of an America that spies on it’s citizens, locks people in prisons without even a hearing, goes to war on false pretenses and more shameful than anything else now approves of torturing prisoners. The very things my father and the greatest generation fought against are coming to be a part of the country they killed and died for. I am glad my father is dead and doesn’t see what has become of his sacrifice.

Prayers for health or remembrance would be a bargain at $50 each with weekly specials at 10 percent off. The best deal though would be the stay at home service, for just $125.00 you could pay once and not come in for the rest of the month.

The republicans refused to go into closed session to discuss the war in Iraq and the N.I.E that was partially released. The GOP has repeatedly accused the Democrats of not having a plan but when offered help they refuse to listen. Since they refuse to even discuss the war, let alone take constructive advice, we must assume that they are willing to admit that everything that happens in Iraq is owned by them. They set up this scenario and now they own it. Yesterday George Bush declassified a whopping four pages of a National Security Estimate (copy can be found here ).
In a style that has come to mark recent Bush speeches the president whined about leaks and the need to keep secrets, and then he released a portion of one. Assuming that he gave us what he thought was the piece of the report that was most supportive of his administration; one has to ask, what the hell does the rest of the report say? If Bush thought that “The NIE, declassified and released late Tuesday, concludes that the conflict has become a "cause celebre" for Islamic holy warriors and is "shaping a new generation of terrorist leaders and operatives." (USA Today) demonstrates support of his policies he is more addled than we thought.
Now we must try and divine what the rest of the NIE contains. Using only my crystal ball I will make predictions about the contents.

1. The war can not be won in the common meaning but can only be brought to a state of stability with moderate levels of violence continuing as long as American troops are in the country.
2. To achieve even this level of stability a massive deployment of troops will have to take place in addition to the troops already deployed.
3. Without more troops the situation will continue to deteriorate and we will be trapped in a situation similar to the Soviets in Afghanistan or America in Viet Nam.
4. No matter what we do the country will never be united and will end up divide into three sectors continually fighting one another over resources.

The future looks bleak in Iraq and the real question is going to be how much Americans are willing to pay to secure George Bush’s pride. Personally I think his checkbook is overdrawn and his credit card has maxed out.

Perennial sea ice is the ice that survives at least one summer, and is usually more than 3 metres thick. Son Nghiem of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, and his colleagues used NASA's QSCAT satellite to measure the changes in Arctic perennial ice from 2004 to 2005, by comparing ice cover averaged over November and December in each year, the team reports in Geophysical Research Letters (vol 33, p L17501).

They found that perennial ice cover decreased by 720,000 square kilometres - a 14 per cent drop in one year. This is a dramatic change compared with the 7.8 per cent reduction per decade that has been recorded since the 1970s.

The changes were not evenly spread. Perennial ice made some gains in the west Arctic Ocean, but nearly half was lost in the east. If the trend continues, it could open a vast ice-free region in the east Arctic Ocean, the team says.

Resentment Breeds Contempt

When government is run strictly in the image of a large corporation the ultimate goal is to get a large return on investment. In the case of a government profit is not the measure of return, but usually some intangible that benefits society. The conservatives have touted this model of government as being the best for assuring that tax payers receive the most for their money.
This model is also the reason the Bush administration will do nothing to aid the people in the Darfur region of Sudan. Darfur has nothing to offer in return for aid. No seaports, no worker class that might support manufacturing and deliver cheaper goods to Wal-Mart, in short there would be no return on the investment. Conservative thinking doesn’t allow for delivering aid just to make life better or even just possible for poor people who have nothing to offer in return. The conservative always look for a return on their investment. This ultimately is the root of terrorism. Resentment builds when people see nothing but suffering and struggle on one side and nothing but profit taking, greed and aggression on the other. In this country we used to know that, resentment seethed in an underclass that had limited opportunity and was treated poorly. Rioting and looting became almost regular occurrences in the 1960’s. Around the world people watch Americans, living at a level incomprehensible to third world citizens. In many countries our corporations only provide minimal income in lousy working environments. Or we buy oil and natural resources from countries run by dictators who provide only poverty and degradation to their citizens. How could these people not resent America? American workers are resentful when the annual raise isn’t enough to provide a second big screen T.V. Imagine the resentment of the worker making thirty cents a day in India sewing together the clothes you are wearing. Resentment breeds contempt, and contempt breeds violence. This is why the people of Darfur will receive no aid from the Bush administration, this is why the level of violence in the world is escalating, and this is why the conservative model is morally bankrupt.

The big question has been why did George Bush invade Iraq? The answer can be found in Bush’s refusal to even consider withdrawal, and his commitment to leave troops in Iraq as long as he is president. The Bush administration, led by the neocon philosophy, is terrified of a unified middle east. Imagine a unified middle east with Iran at the head as a nuclear power. Imagine a nuclear power that also controls the world oil supply in a world addicted to oil. The rise of the soviet empire pales in comparison. The Russians were held in check by the knowledge that any use of nuclear weapons would result in their destruction as well as ours. It was a no win situation. Iran on the other hand would not need the threat of an offensive nuclear strike, the major weapon in their arsenal is oil. They would have the ability to strangle the west with huge increases in oil prices and have a nuclear defensive capability to guard against aggression. China would be held in check as long as their price for oil was maintained at a reasonable rate. Russia is happy to sit on the side lines and watch because as of late August Russia overtook Saudi Arabia as the top oil producer in the world.
Why then isn’t Bush pushing for alternative energy? That is because he has never considered losing in Iraq. That is why there was never a discussion of exit strategy, they never intend to leave. They will allow a puppet government to operate and maintain a huge American military presence to assure stability as well as to remind the neighbors to behave.
It looks as though the president is waiting for the results of the November elections. If the republicans retain control of both houses of congress I think we can look forward to a sharp escalation in the war. This is the unfortunate result of an administration that has no use for diplomacy. Like a petulant child the Bush administration only knows how to demand what it wants and stubbornly refuses to say please. It remains to be seen if they, and us because of them, will be spanked.

Afterward, Moon told his bipartisan audience of Washington power players he would save everyone on Earth as he had saved the souls of Hitler and Stalin -- the murderous dictators had been born again through him, he said. What, exactly, drew at least a dozen members of Congress to Moon's coronation? (By the Unification Church's estimate, 81 congressmen attended, although that number is probably high.) On Jan. 28, 1995, a beaming Rev. Jerry Falwell told his Old Time Gospel Hour congregation news that seemed heaven sent. The televangelist hailed two Virginia businessmen as financial saviors of debt-ridden Liberty University, the fundamentalist Christian school that Falwell had made the crown jewel of his Religious Right empire.
"They had to borrow money, hock their houses, hock everything," enthused Falwell. "Thank God for friends like Dan Reber and Jimmy Thomas." Falwell's congregation rose as one to applaud. The star of the moment was Daniel Reber, who was standing behind Falwell. Thomas was not present.
Left unmentioned in the happy sermon was the identity of the bigger guardian angel who had been protecting Falwell's financial interests -- from a distance and without publicity. That secret benefactor was the Rev. Sun Myung Moon, the self-proclaimed South Korean messiah who is controversial with many fundamentalist Christians because of his bizarre Biblical interpretations and his brainwashing tactics that have torn thousands of young people from their families. Moon also has grown harshly anti-American in recent years.
Covertly, Moon helped bail out Liberty University through one of his front groups which funnelled $3.5 million to the Reber-Thomas Christian Heritage Foundation, the non-profit that had purchased the school's debt.

Has The War In Iraq Jumped The Shark?

Has the war Iraq jumped the shark? Judging by the amount of media coverage being aired, that sure seems to be the case. Today a fuel tanker was blown up killing 37 people and a U.S. solider was killed by an IED. The web sites of the major media outlets all had short pieces up for various lengths of time, but for the most part the war is going on without them. I realize that Iraq is a very dangerous place but there seems to be a shortage of reporters in the country. Of course this is due to the hostile environment the Bush administration has created for reporters to try and limit coverage of the war. The administration doesn’t want coverage of Iraq except when it does, as in reporting about the mythical schools being built and the mythical repairs to the electrical services, water and sewer services and hospitals. In the run up to the elections it seems that the war is dropping off the news radar. Oh, yeah, how’s that other war going, you know the one in Afghanistan.

Where In The World Is Osama Bin Hiding?

It seems everyone knows, except George Bush. French intelligence believes bin-Laden died of typhoid recently in Pakistan. That’s a lot of detail for someone that Bush can’t seem to locate. Time magazine has reported that bin-Laden is very ill and may be dead, this according to Saudi sources. As recently Bush claimed he would even send troops into Pakistan if he knew bin-Laden was hiding there. Hey George, it looks like everyone agrees he’s in Pakistan. I’ll bet if you call the Saudi they could give you his mailing address. Since bin-Laden is probably dead anyway take your time. At the pace you were going he would have died of old age before you got him anyway. Maybe you should concentrate on getting the number 2 guy in Al Qaeda in Iraq, again.
